Położony jest u wylotu pradoliny Redy do Zatoki Puckiej, w granicach Nadmorskiego Parku Krajobrazowego, i został utworzony w 1988 r. Należy do najważniejszych miejsc przyrodniczych na polskim wybrzeżu Bałtyku jako jeden z trzech obszarów występowania nadmorskich słonaw. W rezerwacie oprócz łąk halofilnych można znaleźć także bardzo rzadkie i zagrożone wyginięciem rośliny. Słonawy tworzą cenne siedliska lęgowe ptaków (ok. 200 gatunków).

Beka nature reserve is located at the mouth of the proglacial valley of the river Reda where it flows into the Bay of Puck. It is recognised as one of the most important natural sites on the Polsih shore of the Baltic Sea as it is one of three places where seaside halophilous (brackish) grounds occur, observed only in places where the sea naturally meets the land. Beside the halophilous meadows, Beka encompasses also very rare and endangered with extinction plant species. The area is a unique nesting ground for about 200 rare in Poland and the region species.
